Updated Oct. 25: the 2026 race ran Saturday, Oct. 24. The organizer had not posted results or a 2027 date when we checked; we will add both here. Details below are from the 2026 race.

The first Apex Half Marathon ran Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, from Sweetwater Town Center. The 13.1-mile course ran out and back on the American Tobacco Trail and the White Oak Creek Greenway, with rolling road closures around the Sweetwater neighborhood in west Apex from early morning until about 1 p.m. The organizer has not announced a 2027 date.

The race is a community event organized by VA Momentum, with Garman Homes as presenting sponsor. The Town of Apex supplies police and public works staff but does not run it.

Is it on this year?

The 2026 race, the first, is over. As of Oct. 25 the organizer’s race site still showed the 2026 race, calling it “Year One,” and listed no 2027 date or results. The town’s event page also still shows Oct. 24, 2026. Our things to do this month page has what is on now.

How race weekend worked in 2026

  • Friday, Oct. 23: packet pickup and expo at Sweetwater Town Center, 2 to 7 p.m. (the FAQ’s own deadline list gives 3 to 7 p.m.; check the FAQ before you go). A friend or family member can collect your packet for you.
  • Saturday, Oct. 24, 6 to 7:30 a.m.: race-morning packet pickup at the start line, $10 a person, for runners who chose it when they registered.
  • 8 a.m.: half marathon start, beside the town center lawn.
  • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: post-race athlete village and beer garden by the finish, with music, food, a PR bell and the awards.

Awards go to the first male and female overall and the top three in each age group, from 12 and under to 75 and older. Pets are not allowed; jogging strollers are welcome.

Road closures

From the Town of Apex event page:

  • Rolling and temporary closures around the Sweetwater neighborhood, including race crossings on Richardson Road, Herb Garden Way, Wimberly Road and Soaring Silo Way.
  • Closures on Gloriosa Street, Hasse Avenue and Wishing Well Wynd.
  • Partial closures at Sweetwater Town Center on Harrel Drive, Lawnview Lane, Newland Road and Stokesdale Avenue.

The town did not publish closure times beyond the event’s 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. window. Other work around town is on our road construction and closures page.

Parking

The organizer’s FAQ listed three places to park in 2026:

  • the Sweetwater Town Center north parking deck
  • the Sweetwater Town Center south parking deck
  • the Harris Teeter parking lot across Richardson Road

Trail users

The American Tobacco Trail and the White Oak Creek Greenway stayed open to the public during the 2026 race, the town said, with runners on both for up to 3 1/2 hours. Our walking and biking trails page has other routes.

Price and registration

Entry rose in steps: $69 in April, then $79 from May 1 and $89 from July 1. From Oct. 1 through race day it was $99, and online registration closed Oct. 22. The race partners with Be The Rainbow Foundation, an Apex family’s childhood cancer nonprofit.
