Of 187 Apex food establishments inspected by Wake County in the past year, 186 held an A on their latest inspection. How grades work and where to look. 919-856-5700.
Last checked Oct. 11, 2026. Scores come from Wake County’s Food Inspections open data, which covers inspections through Oct. 6, 2026. An inspection score is a snapshot of conditions on the day of the inspection. It is not a rating of food quality, and a lower score does not mean anyone became ill.
Restaurants, food trucks, school cafeterias and meat markets in Apex are permitted and inspected by Wake County Environmental Health and Safety, not the town. Every inspection gets a score out of 100 and a letter grade, and the grade card must be posted where customers can see it.

How North Carolina grades restaurants
The scale is set by state rule 15A NCAC 18A .2662:
| Grade | Score |
|---|---|
| A | 90 or higher |
| B | 80 to under 90 |
| C | 70 to under 80 |
| Permit revoked | Below 70 |
Inspectors deduct points for violations of the state food code. Under the state’s inspection rule, a deduction can be halved when a priority violation is corrected during the inspection and was not cited the time before. A restaurant that wants to raise its grade can ask for a new inspection, which must be unannounced and made within 15 days. The grade card is black on white, and on a food truck or pushcart it must be visible where customers order.

Method notes
- Figures cover establishments whose county record lists Apex as the city. Places with an Apex mailing address outside town limits are included; Apex businesses listed under another city are not.
- The county removes closed establishments from its data, and a change of owner counts as a new permit, so a restaurant’s history can restart under a new owner.
- Scores here are copied from the county’s data and may lag the posted grade card by a few days. The state search site shows each full inspection report.
