Friendship is a community in southwest Apex that shares its name with the Apex Friendship schools. Where it is

Humie Olive Road and Old US 1 meet at the center of the area, with Evans Road to the north and the CSX railroad to the south. In 2019 the plan described the area as “predominantly rural residential but bordered by the Apex Friendship schools campus and several recently constructed or approved residential developments,” and noted that it “has experienced growth and increased traffic.”

The town’s Western Big Branch Area Plan, adopted Nov. 21, 2024, covers the land south of Old US 1 between NC 540 and New Hill Holleman Road. Its goals include to “encourage development of a small-scale downtown near the intersection of Humie Olive Road and Old US 1” and to “honor the history of the Friendship and New Hill communities.” It draws on CAMPO’s 2022 Friendship Road Hot Spot Interchange Study.

Town or county? Six of the seven addresses we checked were inside the Town of Apex on the Census Bureau’s geocoder. One, on Old US 1, was in unincorporated Wake County with a New Hill mailing address.
