Apex is a town of 70,630 people, by the Census Bureau’s 2020-2024 American Community Survey estimates, with about 27.7 square miles of land inside its limits on the Census Bureau’s TIGERweb map. Almost all of it is in western Wake County, with a small part in Chatham County. US 1 crosses the south side, US 64 the north, NC 55 runs through the middle as Williams Street, and NC 540, the Triangle Expressway toll road, curves around the west and south. Three facts shape where you live here more than any neighborhood name:

  • Several ZIP codes, several markets. 27502 covers downtown and most of central and west Apex; 27523 most of the north side; 27539 the southeast. Zillow’s typical value in August 2026 was $563,043, $732,797 and $602,760. Some homes inside the town have New Hill mailing addresses in 27562.
  • School zones do not follow the town line. Every address we checked is in the Wake County Public School System, but the 73 addresses were zoned for five different high schools, two of them in Cary. Middle Creek High has an Apex mailing address but sits inside Cary.
  • Town or county. An Apex mailing address can be in unincorporated Wake County, and some south of US 1 are inside Holly Springs. That changes your tax bill, police and trash service.

What this means for you

  • Look up any address in the district’s base school lookup or call WCPSS Student Assignment, 919-431-7333. Proposed 2027-28 changes have their own lookup.
  • Check whether a parcel is in the town with Wake County’s real estate search.
  • Zillow’s figures are a modeled typical value for the middle third of homes in a ZIP code, not a sale price.

How we built this

  • Which areas. We used only places a source names and puts on a map. The town’s 2045 Land Use Map update, adopted Feb. 5, 2019, names 10 focus areas; we used US 64 West, Buckhorn, New Hill, Friendship, Bosco, Pleasant Park, Tingen and Middle Creek North and South, and the Old Jenks Road block it describes outside them. The Downtown Master Plan defines downtown; the Western Big Branch Area Plan names the Friendship and New Hill communities; the town’s GoApex Route 1 ride guide names Beaver Creek Commons and Beaver Creek Crossings. OpenStreetMap place nodes name Friendship, New Hill and Claybourne.
  • Left out. The plan’s Bonsal focus area is rural land at the Chatham County line, mostly outside the town, so it has no page. OpenStreetMap’s Green Level and Knollwood points fall inside Cary and Feltonville inside Holly Springs. We found no neighborhood or homeowners association registry on the town’s site, so we name no subdivision except where a town plan or page does.
  • Schools. We checked 73 addresses across the 11 areas in the district’s 2026-27 base school lookup and report what came back, and checked each address’s town and ZIP code with the Census Bureau’s geocoder. Zones change; check your own address.
  • Distances are measured on OpenStreetMap roads with the OSRM routing engine. They are distances, not drive times.
